The Imperative for Missions
100 Ways Kids Can Help the Persecuted Church in 2012
Voice of the Martyrs ( @VOM_USA ) has created this website Kids of Courage to help children become courageous about their faith and speak out on behalf of those who suffer for being Christians. The website has helpful PDF downloads, activity books, videos and practical tips for parents and ministries.
Teaching Children about World Missions
If you’re looking for a good resource that helps you teach children about missions, this is a great one! My friends Jon and Erika Tello from Moody Bible Institute (missionaries now in Italy) have put together this “Hello Kiddos” website that provides “a place where kids and their families can engage with world missions.” This website has great resources, stats, and links that will walk you through ways to teach your kids about world missions. My prayer is that the Lord would use websites and resources like this to raise up a bold generation of sold out missionaries.
Here’s a quick video summary of my trip to Liberia this June. We were able train nearly 240 hungry church leaders and bring resources donated to us by Crossway Publishers and Moody Press. We have so many resources here in the states that we often take for granted. I’m reminded of the words of Crawford Loritts when he said he feared that too much rich food was going to kill us. How I pray that we (beginning with me) would have a global vision for the spread of the Gospel and the equipping of leaders. Soli Deo Gloria!
I should have just landed in Monrovia, Liberia
I write this blog in Chicago on the Irving Park bus the Tuesday before I leave, however scheduled to post today, Friday May 27 at 12:45pm (5:45pm Liberia time), the time of my arrival into Monrovia. Please pray for me and my friend and brother Kerwin as we serve here in Africa.
Tomorrow, Saturday May 28, we will be speaking at a radio station here in Monrovia explaining our visit and promoting the pastors conference.
Sunday, May 29 Kerwin will be preaching at Pastor Wilson’s Church, Living Hope Bible Church. This Monday, May 30 we will begin our first conference workshop! I will be opening the conference with a lesson on the identity of a minister stemming primarily from Titus 1:1-4.
Pray for us please.
- Pray that the Spirit of God would move mightily among us.
- Pray that Satan’s desires to thwart this conference and trip would not come about.
- Pray that these Pastors and leaders would be equipped and have their hearts stirred for Christ producing long lasting fruit.
- Pray that Kerwin and I would be discerning, humble, and teach-preach courageously (for we don’t have a Spirit of timidity but of power!)
- Pray that we would teach and preach with power with the Bible as our authority and we as instruments of God to communicate His message.
- Pray that our bodies would adjust to all of the transitions from what we eat and drink to sleeping in mosquito nets.
- Pray for our families as we will be away from them for nearly 3 weeks. I know by this point I will be missing Erikah, Keziah, and Lukas a ton!
I want to express my gratitude to my wife, Erikah, for all of her support in my planning for this trip. God has given us a vision for the nations that we delight in seeing get developed.
I also want to express my gratitude to Pastor Ralph, the Elders, and people of Good News Bible Church. Pastor Ralph and the Elders prayerfully considered this partnership with Pastor Wilson in Liberia and have been supportive and engaged. Likewise, the people of Good News have given so sacrificially. Your excitement for this trip matched my own! I think of one individual who wrote me a substantial check and thanked ME for going!
Lastly, thank you to the others outside of Good News who have given of their finances and given of their time to pray for me and Kerwin.
I hope to blog from Liberia but I suspect dial-up speed at an internet Café in Monrovia may not be conducive for blogging!
I love you guys and can’t wait to see what our mighty God will do these next 2 1/2 weeks!
I leave for Liberia 3 weeks from today! Here’s an update on my preparations. I’d love to hear from you!
This is Paul Washer, a man whom I greatly admire and sincerely want to be like. I almost hate to even post this great message on my “blog”, but I’m doing it otherwise because I need to hear it and I know many others do too. Lord help me be heavenly minded and not get lost with things that are passing away.
